This serigraph on silk is a limited edition created after the original painting, “Buste de Femme”, 1939, (oil on canvas).
Pablo Picasso maintained a very private collection throughout his lifetime consisting of his own favorite Picasso paintings. The collection was directly inherited by Marina Picasso, his granddaughter.
This limited edition was made possibly by virtue of an agreement with Marina Picasso and the distributor, Serena Fine Art. The serigraphs, edited in honor of the 20th anniversary of Picasso’s passing, are hand-pulled from hand-engraved plates and are printed on silk.
The edition created from the plates for this series was approved by S.P.A.D.E.M. and endorsed by the Pablo Picasso Estate. After the printing was completed, the master plates which produced this edition were destroyed by law. There will be no further editions.
“Buste de Femme”, 1939, is one of Picasso’s most admired oils on canvas. It represents a
bust portrait of a woman which transposes the “model and painter” theme into a Picassoesque composition viewing the woman full-face and profile at the same point in time. The heightened color of the painting reveals the dynamism of the artist’s most evocative and well-known style.
