Pierre Bonnard

French Painter

French, 1867-1947

Bonnard spent the last twenty-odd years of his life in a simple house in Le Cannet, a hillside village on the Mediterranean. The house and its furnishings were his subjects, and it was here that he completed his ambitious late canvases. These mysterious paintings ultimately convert the objects of daily life into radiant abstracted expressions of light and local color.
